Looking at my regular dose of the Travel Daily ( an interesting little travel industry focused enewsletter) I noticed their lead article on over 50s Saga cruises:
Under the Single Equality Act, companies are banned from discriminating on the grounds of age in the provision of goods and services.
This means that companies cannot specify that a holiday is only available for over 50s or I guess for 18-30s only. I wonder how many other companies will be impacted by this government legislation?
Personally I think it makes tours far more interesting to have a good mix of people from all ages, backgrounds and even countries. Its been one of the minor highlights of my Explore experiences having people from Australia, Canada, the US and from 6 years to 70 years (depending on the type of tour of course)!
However, I would be very interested to know what you think?

I agree wholeheartedly – the mix of ages that I have found on Explore trips is part of what makes them such interesting and fun groups of people to spend time with. I have just come back from the Walking in Tuscany trip – we had a group ranging in age from 19 to late 60s – and, as usual, the older ones left us ‘younger’ ones way behind. Conversations have more depth and breadth. And the mix of nationalities – Kiwis, Aussies, Canadians, Americans, Brits – so much interesting experience. You would miss out on so much if the group was restricted based on age or nationality – an important part of the experience of travel would be lost.
Forget all about this 70 stuff!! Current age 81 next month and my partner 73: at the age of 74 drove from UK to Akaba and back in open two seater MX5, more recently we have driven around the coast of Australia and the high Atlas in Morocco also up to North Cape and the arctic circle the last two in the MX5.
Currently we are trying to arrange trip to the silk route (not in an MX5)
Remember what Robert Louis Stevenson said ‘ it is better to travel hopefully than to arrive’
In my earlier years drove from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to UK and from Belize to New York.
